Heroes
- Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
Q: What is "Heroes"?
"Heroes" is a multi-format alternative fan-fiction project
that incorporates a combination of narrative fiction and character
journals, featuring characters from both "Buffy the Vampire
Slayer" and "Angel."
Q: When does it air?
Every other Tuesday. It was originally every Tuesday, but we decided
we aren't that insane.
Q: How long are the seasons?
Season One will be thirteen episodes, all told. No definitive plans
for the length of Season Two and beyond have been set down.
Q: Who writes"Heroes"?
That would be Airawyn, Dylan Adams, SoulVamp, and Veggiebelle
Q: I've heard at least one of those names before.
Not unlikely. They've all been around the fanfic game for a while.
Q: Why isn't "Heroes" in script format?
That would be difficult and somewhat boring. Scripts are meant to
be performed - prose is meant to be played out in the head.
Q: I've just discovered "Heroes" and I'd like to read
the latest episode first, but I'm afraid that I might be missing
something. How can I get the skinny on previous eps without reading
the full versions?
Check out our Episode
Summaries. The plots of every episode are condensed into synopses
that are usually about one-tenth the size of the full version. You
can hop right into our current continuity and save the previous
episodes for the weeks we're off.
Q: I've just read the latest episode, and I can't
wait to discuss it! Where can I do that?
Check out our forum.
Every episode (or most, anyway) has its own discussion thread.
Q: The last ep was fantastic, but I'm left with a
desperate feeling of wanting more. How can I fill my life more joyful
"Heroes" goodness?
Glad you asked! Every character maintains their own Livejournal
and they discuss the events of the episode and add some depth to
the proceedings. Links to those journals can be found along the
right-hand side.
Q: I love "Heroes" and I would just die if I could
write an episode.
We're happy with our current staff complement. However, this doesn't
rule out accepting freelance episodes in the future. If we start
accepting outside submissions, we'll probably announce on the handy-dandy
forums.
Q: Will you post my "Heroes" fanfic?
We might post a link to it. However, due to the increasingly complex
beast that is "Heroes" canon, we can't have official non-episode
fics unless they were written by the staff. There's also a section
in the forums
for posting fan-made contributions.
Q: I made this very special piece of "Heroes" artwork
that I think really encapsulates the spirit of episode 1.07 while
still maintaining the heart of 1.05. When can I expect it up on
the site?
Forum. Fan
contributions area. We'd love to see it.
Q: You're not on a real network. You have no FCC
to worry about. Where's the hot nekkid sex?
In other fic archives. We're trying to run "Heroes" as
if it really were on television. Hence the term "virtual series."
Q: Who designed the keen website?
Dylan Adams did the layout, but SoulVamp is responsible for the
rad logo that inspired it all.
Q: What's the sound of a man's last dying breath leaving his
body?
It's sort of a whoosh-- Er, no idea.
Writing Questions
Q: Okay, how the *hell* did Angel and co. escape
their almost certain doom in "Not Fade Away"?
See our wacky combination of clever planning, jaunty quips, and
Indiana Jones in Last More Than One
Day.
Q: I was at Comic-Con and Joss said that Gunn died at the end
of the last "Angel" episode. You guys are a bunch of Mary
Sueing canon-disrupting sons of Brad Kern.
That hurts us. A lot. The fact of the matter is that Gunn didn't
die on-screen. We feel that our way of keeping him active, so to
speak, is plausible within the confines of the Buffyverse. Also,
"Heroes" launched a full month before Comic-Con, so there's no way
we could've known.
Q: Okay, what's up with being able to see into the heads of the
characters? That can't happen on a television show.
"Heroes" is written in a prose format. We have no visual
elements which are usually loaded with all sorts of subtleties that
can assist the viewer with what's going on in the brain. We don't
going digging into the gray matter too often and usually only for
angsty introspection.
Q: Why San Diego?
Why Cleveland?
Q: Well, Giles said it was on a Hellmouth in "Chosen,"
plus in "The Wish," Buffy was...
Okay, okay. We get it. Cleveland. Woo.
Q: When's (favorite character) going to show up?
Could be we'll get to him/her/it. Could be they never set foot on
our virtual soundstage. It all depends if we have a good story to
put them in.
Q: There doesn't seem to be a lot of action in "Heroes."
San Diego's not on a Hellmouth. Nor is it the noirish Los Angeles
of Joss Whedon's vision. Demonic activity is a little reduced.
Q: Bangel/Spuffy 4 EVA!
No. No. No. We're just starting out. We're not going to arbitrarily
stick Buffy back with one of her exes just because.
Q: Xuffy 4 EVA!
Oh, dear.
Q: Spander 4 EVA!
Okay, now you're just trying to annoy us.
Q: Basically.
Well, it worked. Happy now?
Q: When are you resurrecting Wes/Anya/Tara/Amanda?
Er, never?
Q: Sooo... what's going to happen next?
Just like real television, there's people out there who know. If
you can find them, they might tell you. We're certainly not going
to.
Heroes To Go! - The Palm FAQ
Q: I can get "Heroes" on my Palm? Where?
On the "Episodes" page, listed right next to "Summary" in the paranthetical
next to the episode title, it says "Palm." Right-click
that link and choose "Save as..." from the drop-down menu.
Mac users are essentially the same, except you Ctrl-click for the
menu.
Q: I don't have a Palm. I have a Clie. Can I read the Palm files
on that?
Yes. Any handheld that runs on the Palm operating system can read
these files.
Q: What about my Pocket PC?
Then you're out of luck. Get a Palm!
Q: But I really like my Pocket PC!
Fine. Tell you what, if enough people ask, we'll set up files for
Pocket PC. For now, we're just supporting Palm.
Q: How do I get the Palm files from my hard drive
to my Palm?
Once you've downloaded the files, go to Hot Sync/Install Handheld
Files. Click on "Add to List" and select the Heroes files.
Q: How do I read them on my Palm?
You probably already have a document reader, such as MobiPocket,
Documents to Go, or WordSmith. Just open the file in that program.
If you don't have a document reader, download Tiny Book Reader.
It's free and simple to use.
Q: There's some weird characters showing up, like
question marks in the wrong places. What's up with that?
*headdesk* Long story, involving Microsoft Word and a pact with
the devil. I thought I'd cleared out all the funky characters, but
if you spot any, please let me know so I can fix the files.
Q: Can I download the character journals to my Palm?
We don't currently have anything set up for that. If it's something
you'd like to see, let us know.
